LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Police said a shooting that killed a man in Louisville’s Russell neighborhood last week was a case of self defense.
Police said 37-year-old Donald Dorsey was visiting someone in the area of 21st and Chestnut Tuesday night, Aug. 12.
An argument started inside the home and Dorsey was shot. He stumbled outside, collapsed in the street and died.
On Monday, Aug. 18, we learned Dorsey had a child with a woman who lives in the house. He got into an argument with the woman and her boyfriend.
“When the victim forced entry inside of the house with a weapon in his hand, that put the subject inside the house in fear of his life at which time he was justified in using self-defense,” Lt. Todd Kessinger of LMPD said. “The victim had a child in common with the lady that lived [there] she was at that location with her boyfriend. They had a verbal altercation in reference to their child.”
The shooter fled the scene but was later apprehended. He has a bench warrant out for his arrest and will also face a charge for tampering with evidence but will not be charged with murder.
