(WHAS11) -- Emergency crews are responding to a report of an accident in southern Jefferson County.
It happened after 11:00 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Bardstown Road and Glenmary Farm Drive.
The coroner has identifed the victim as WIlliam Callahan of Georgia Avenue. He was not wearing a helmet, but due to the nature of the accident, it may not have mattered.
According to Louisville Metro Police, this is a fatal accident. We've learned a motorcycle and a car collided, and the motorcyclist was killed. The motorcyclist was stopped at a red light heading north on Bardstown Road when a white work van rear-ended the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was taken to University Hospital where he died.
After hitting the motorcycle, the van hit two or three other cars in the southbound lanes. Two others were taken to the hospital with injuries that are considered to not be life threatening.
Traffic was diverted until about 2:30 p.m.
It is not clear at this time if charges will be filed.
