Victims identified in wrong way I-71 crash that killed 2, injured 2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A crash on I-71 south left two dead and two others injured on September 7.

According to the police report, a 2006 Volkswagen driven by Donald R. Pickett was traveling the wrong way on I-71.

Pickett was going north bound in the south bound lane.

Pickett's vehicle struck an Infinity head on, ejecting Pickett from his car. A Toyota was reportedly traveling behind the Infinity and struck Pickett after he had been thrown from the vehicle.

Pickett was deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Infinity and two passengers were transported to University of Louisville Hospital.

One passenger of the Infinity died as a result of his injuries. He was identified as George A. Chavez, 23, of Louisville.

The collision is still under investigation.
