New Albany, Ind. (WHAS) – U.S. senator-elect Joe Donnelly made his rounds in southern Indiana Saturday meeting Hoosiers who are helping the less fortunate during the holidays.

Donnelly stopped in New Albany at a food bank operated by Hope Southern Indiana.

The organization is faith based that serves the Clark and Floyd County communities.

Donnelly says this area is in dire need of jobs to help bring people out of poverty and that will be his top priority when he gets to Washington.

“I’ve always said the best social program in the world is a good job for mom or dad and so when we have more job opportunities, more people at work we see things like poverty drop,” Donnelly said. “[And] so our economy grows, more opportunity comes in, more families can meet all their own needs.”

Donnelly says he plans to bring more jobs to Indiana and the entire United States with an all-in American energy policy.

He wants our country to use all of its resources because he believes energy independence will grow our economy and add jobs.
