LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) - - Episcopal priests are now allowed to conduct services blessing same sex relationships.
The new policy was approved at the church's national convention in Indianapolis Tuesday.
Nearly 80 percent of the church's house of deputies voted to authorize the blessing for the next three years.
Monday the house of bishops approved the rite.
Church officials say the blessing isn't the same as a marriage ceremony. There are many similarities.
The Episcopal Church becomes the largest US denomination to officially sanction same sex relationships.
The church has about 2 million members in the US.
