(WHAS11) -- A local woman says she's getting dozens of calls every day from total strangers who live in Kentucky and most of them are angry.
They say they're getting calls from her. It's all a big mistake that can be traced to politics.
Brenda Farrell has received a barrage of voice mails like this one: VOICE MAIL: "By the way I won't be voting for your candidate. I hate these calls."
From angry people: VOICE MAIL: "You can look on your caller ID and get my number off, but get it off."
And people who are confused: VOICE MAIL: "I had someone from this number call me today. I'm calling back. Wondering who it's from or what it's pertaining to."
"Since Saturday I've been receiving calls from people in the state of Kentucky who are receiving phone calls from someone promoting David Williams for Governor,” Brenda Farrell said.
Here's the problem: Brenda's not making the phone calls. They don't show up on her phone records. However, the number for this cell phone, which belongs to her family’s company, Superior Truck Services, shows up on people's caller ID. And they evidently hear a “robo-call” promoting David Williams for Governor. They're upset or confused and letting her know by calling her back.
"Several people have said you've called me five times, don't call here again,” Brenda said.
VOICE MAIL: "I'm calling back because I wondered how you like it that I can't hang up on you when you call me. And so I'm going to call and keep leaving this on your machine until you take me off your calling list.”
"The first couple of days I've tried to answer them all and explain but I couldn't keep up with it,” Brenda said.
That’s because she gets about 70 of these calls a day. And apparently the “robo-calls” are made 24 hours a day, so people call her all hours of the day and night to complain. Now she keeps her phone on silent and doesn't use it.
WHAS11 called the David Williams campaign and got a call back from the Kentucky Republican Party who said the number entered to make the calls was incorrect. They called it a clerical error and an honest mistake. They say it's been stopped and corrected.
VOICE MAIL: "I don't know who's trying to get hold of me, but I'm calling you back."
Now that the problem is fixed, Brenda can have some relief.
"This is my cell phone, I can't use it. I know it's a small problem but it's an inconvenience to me,” Brenda said.
