LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Roads have been given the all clear after underground explosions rocked streets near 7th and Jefferson.

LG&E says an underground fire caused pressure to build up which set off the explosions.

Officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire but think it could be an electrical issue with a transformer.

Flooding that happened the same day in the Mayor’s office is thought to be associated with the fire.

City spokesperson Chris Poynter said at least 10 offices have some degree of water damage but says the artwork and historic pieces of furniture seem to be okay.
