LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The annual Rice Bowl was held on Wednesday at Holy Cross High School in Louisville.

Students learned about Catholic charities and the Catholic Relief Services’ Rice Bowl program.

The Rice Bowl program has allowed parishes, schools and families to live in solidarity with the poor and vulnerable for nearly 40 years.

Thos who take part during the 40 days of lent make daily reflections and offer small gifts to fill rice bowls.

This is the third year for the lunch with the students.  Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which falls on March 5.
