Reports: Pilot identified in UPS plane crash

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- One of the pilots killed in the UPS plane crash Wednesday morning in Birmingham, Ala. has been identified as a a Moore County, Tenn. woman.

According to reports from WKRN-TV in Nashville, Shanda Fanning, 37, has been identified as the co-pilot on that plane.

There were two pilots on the plane. The second pilot's identity has not been released.

The UPS plane was en route from Louisville to Birmingham when it crashed just outside of the airport.

 

We received this statement from UPS Airlines President Mitch Nichols, who says:

"This incident is very unfortunate, and our thoughts and prayers are with those involved.  We place the utmost value on the safety of our employees, our customers and the public. We will immediately engage with the national transportation safety board's investigation, and we will work exhaustively on response efforts."
