LEXINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) – The body of a missing Lexington, Kentucky chef has been found, according to officials.

The Fayette County Coroner says 32-year-old Alex Johnson’s body has been found after authorities searched the Kentucky River.

They discovered a 55-gallon barrel containing human remains underwater near Clay’s Ferry on Friday and later identifying them as Johnson’s a day later.

The coroner believes the remains may have been in the barrel for as long as a month.

Johnson wasn’t heard from since December 20 after a phone call with a girlfriend. She said their phone call ended when Johnson said he had to answer the door.

Police recently arrested Robert Taylor in Texas on Wednesday in connection of Johnson’s disappearance but have now charged him with murder.

Another man, Timothy Ballard, was arrested earlier this week on charges of complicity to kidnapping and tampering with evidence.
