(WHAS11)-Disaster can strike at any time, and the Red Cross wants to make sure people are prepared.
Saturday the organization demonstrated what to do in case of a fire or flood, at the "Be Red Cross Ready" event in the Parkland neighborhood.
The Red Cross says they chose that location because 30 percent of fires in Louisville happen on the west side of the city.
Organizers suggested creating family emergency plans and disaster kits to attendees and handed out free smoke detector batteries.
“It's important to be prepared for any kind of disaster. You never know when it's going to happen. Home fires can happen at any moment, any time. We want to make sure everyone is prepared for that,” says Anna Rosales/Public Relations American Red Cross.
Red Cross organizers say they are in need of donations.
