LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) - - A massive fire at a recycling plant in southeastern Kentucky continues to burn but it is close to being contained.
The fire broke out Wednesday at Kings Tire Recycling in Stearns that is in McCreary County.
At least 40,000 tires have burned sending thick black smoke pouring into the air.
All the processing equipment at the recycling plant was destroyed.
The fire forced the evacuation of a nearby daycare, two schools, a business and a factory.
Environmental officials are monitoring the air.
The company had a history of violations including a notice issued three weeks ago that said they had more than 100,000 tires lacked; fire breaks and was too close to a residence.
