RADCLIFF, Ky. (WHAS11)--Radcliff police are piecing together clues surrounding a death after someone showed up at the police department covered in blood Sunday.

Police said that early Sunday morning, someone showed up at the station with a laceration and covered in blood; that person told police it was the result of an attack.  That led police to investigate a house in the 900 block of Scenic Drive.

”Our officers came to this scene and could not get anyone to answer any door.  They found a victim inside that had a gunshot wound.  It was my understanding that they were former husband and wife.  I know that she died of a gunshot wound,” Bryce Shumate, Radcliff Public Affairs officer, said.

The person found shot in the home on Scenic Drive was flown to University Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Shumate said the person who showed up at the police department also went to University Hospital and was treated.

He also said detectives are talking to people about what happened but did not comment about whether police had been to the house, or dealt with this former couple, in the past.

Police are being very tight lipped about what happened and they have not yet released any names in the case and they have not charged anyone in relation to the case.

“With the detectives still investigating this case, I think it would be premature for me to talk about what happened in the past,” said Shumate.
