LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Presbyterian Community Center in Smoketown held a viewing of the documentary, "More Than Bricks and Mortar: the Sheppard Square Story" on Thursday.
The film, produced and directed by Lavel D. White, features 16 former Sheppard Square residents who describe a close connection with the staff at the community center. Many called the center a safe haven where they could get meals, participate in programs and have adult mentors.
The funds to operate the center dried up about two years ago. It takes about $50,000 per month to keep it running.
