(WHAS11) -- A pregnant Floyd County inmate who escaped custody yesterday afternoon is back behind bars.

23-year-old Bridgette Sims turned herself in to authorities late this afternoon after her family members arranged her surrender.

Sims was arrested Friday afternoon after allegedly shoplifting from the New Albany Wal-Mart.

At the time of her arrest, police discovered prescription pain pills in her purse, leading them to be concerned about her unborn baby.

Sims was taken to Floyd Memorial Hospital Sunday night, where she walked out the back door of a restroom.

Police say she managed to get a ride from a good Samaritan, who also gave her clothing.

Police searched for her at several locations, but kept missing her.

Eventually, they were able to arrange her surrender.

Sims allegedly told officers she ran away from the hospital because she "freaked out" over the theft charge.
She's scheduled to be arraigned in Floyd County court tomorrow.
