LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A recent rash of violent crime in the Highlands area of Louisville has residents on edge.
One alert issued by police warns residents about two men who pulled a woman over posing as a police officer. One of the men managed to get her debit card by telling her it was listed as fraudulent. Several hundred dollars then went missing from the woman’s account. They’re described as white males, one is heavyset with glasses. They’re driving a white car with blue and red flashing lights.
Chris Padgett, President of the Belknap Neighborhood Association, says it doesn’t stop there.
“We’ve had burglaries [with] someone with guns and weapons and people were at home, so even though you’re in your house, you need to lock your doors,” said Padgett.
Barbara Weihe says she hasn’t been a victim herself, but her friends have been hit.
“I don’t like it at all because we used to always leave our door unlocked and now we’re a lot more cautious and now with my grandchildren going home after school, we worry more about that,” said Weihe.
Padgett believes it could be the poor economy spiking crime levels in a typically safe community. But, he believes no matter the cause, people need to be aware of the situation. He also believes increased police patrols could cut back on the crime.
