ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WHAS11) – Kentucky State Police have arrested an Elizabethtown man after they say he threatened them with a knife.
Police were called to the 2000 block of Hodgenville Road just after 11:30 p.m. to answer a distress call from concerned family members of a man making suicidal references.
When they arrived on the scene, police say 53-year-old Gerald Scheppa was wielding a large knife and ran into a wooded area near his home.
According to the report, Scheppa failed to comply and continued to brandish the weapon. Officers then said Scheppa threw the knife at an officer with the officer returning a single shot.
Scheppa was arrested and transported to University Hospital for surgery.
He’s currently facing assault in the third degree.
