GRAYSON, Ky. (AP) -- State police say a 20-year-old Carter County man whose body was found by hikers last year died accidentally when he fell from a cliff.
Ashland newspaper The Independent reports police were able to piece together what happened to Nathan Barker after technicians repaired his cell phone. They recovered text messages the Olive Hill man had attempted to send after wrecking his car on KY-7 in July2011.
According to the messages, Barker was unfamiliar with the area where he went walking through the woods looking for help. He apparently fell from a cliff.
After police found Barker's car, they initially suspected his disappearance was connected to the recent killing of another young man from Olive Hill.
Barker's body was found last October in a remote area near Grayson Lake.
