LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Jefferson County Public Schools called in Louisville Metro Police after a report of a student with a weapon in a backpack.

JCPS officials said they received a call from a family member concerned that a student may be carrying a weapon.  When security staff confronted the student, they said he dropped a backpack he was carrying and ran.

The bag was searched and two guns were found, JCPS officials said.

Police caught up with the student in a neighborhood near the school. Another student who was talking with the student in possession of the backpack was also questioned.

The two students were arrested, but police are not releasing their names due to their ages. Both are charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property, one juvenile is facing an additional charge of fleeing or evading police.

JCPS said there were no threats made to student or staff members at the school.

Valley High School and Dixie Elementary School were on increased security while police searched for the student.
