LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A call to authorities for a possible domestic abuse situation led Kentucky State Police to find a young girl they believe was being abused.

Troopers pulled over Matthew Clifton and Kimberly Riggs on I-75 in Scott County on Friday.

The couple was wanted for a domestic assault at a gas station.

Troopers say they had their 14-month-old daughter in the car who was having difficulty breathing.

According to the report, she was also suffering from severe malnutrition, bruising on her head and legs and a severe case of diaper rash.

The toddler was rushed to the hospital while Clifton and Riggs were charged with criminal abuse and domestic assault.
