LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville Metro Police have made an arrest in connection with the shooting death of 24-year-old Brandon Shackelford early Monday morning.
Shackelford's body was found inside a car at Cox Park by an officer on routine patrol, but police said they believe he was shot during a robbery in Fern Creek and brought to the park.
Monday afternoon police arrested 21-year-old Nashawn Mills on charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery and tampering with physical evidence.
According to the police report, Mills robbed Shackelford and another man, During the robbery, police said, Mills shot Shackelford, causing his death. Mills attempted to shoot the other man as well, but failed. Police said Mills then fled in the vehicle with Shackelford's body inside and left it in the parking lot of Cox Park.
Police said Mills "created and incendiary device and attempted to destroy the vehicle," and tried to conceal the gun used in the crime.
Mills was arraigned in a Jefferson County court Tuesday and he pleaded not guilty. The judge set his bond at $1,000,000 and ordered Mills to have not contact with the victim's family.
He is due back in court July 12.
