(WHAS11) - A Saturday night police shooting leaves one man dead and at least four officers on paid leave.
It happened in the Iroquois homes housing complex in the 1500 block of Oneida court around 8:00 p.m. Saturday night. Police were called to the scene on a trouble run. When they arrived they say they were threatened by a black man in his 40s carrying a hammer.
Officers say they attempted to subdue the man with a Taser and even fired a shot. The man was able to escape back into an apartment.
"Short time later the man arose from his apartment and approached officers with the hammer. He was fired upon and taken to University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead," said Dwight Mitchell LMPD.
The man was identified Sunday as 48-year-old Donnie Miles.
