LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (WHAS11)—A Louisville man is arrested after leading police on a chase on I-64 on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said an undercover drug sting turned into a chase by Lawrenceburg Police while attempted to stop the suspect within city limits.
Police said Ahmad M. Ghazawi, 27, came from Louisville to sell heroin to a confidential police informant, where plain clothed officers observed the transaction. Marked officers attempted to stop Ghazawi in a 2000 Mercury Sable on North Main Street, leading police to I-64.
Officers from four different departments assisted in the pursuit that ended at the 24 mile marker of I-64 in Shelby Co.
Police said they recovered approximately 18 grams of heroin with a street value of $7,200.
Ghazawi is charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance first degree, tampering with physical evidence, fleeing of evading police first degree, wanton endangerment first degree, reckless driving, speeding 26 mph or greater over the speed limit and driving too fast for traffic conditions.
Other charges are pending in Franklin and Shelby counties. Ghazawi will be held in the Shelby Co. Jail.
No injuries were reported.
