OHIO CO., Ind. (WHAS11) -- A man is in jail following the beating death of a one-year-old child in January.
Indiana State Police arrested 26-year-old Brian Woeste Thursday in connection with the death of a one-year-old in January.
Police were called to the Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio in January about a seriously injured child. Two days later the one-year-old child, Nolan Helfrich, died from his injuries. An autopsy revealed that Nolan died of blunt force trauma to the head, neck and torso and his death was ruled a homicide.
Brian Woeste was the live-in boyfriend of Nolan's mother, Michelle Helfrich. According to police, Nolan sustained his injuries while at home alone with Woeste. Nolan's mother was away attending a class at Ivy Tech.
Woeste was arrested by state police without incident at his father’s residence in Switzerland County. He is currently being held in the Switzerland County Jail on charges of murder, battery resulting in death of a person less than 14 years of age and two counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
