LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)— A Louisville man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting one of the fiberglass Derby horses found around the city.

James McKinney was arrested early Monday morning and charged with criminal mischief.

Police say he was seen repeatedly hitting the horse outside the Marriott Downtown on West Jefferson street.

Police say McKinney then pushed the horse over, breaking off the tail.

McKinney allegedly carried the broken tail with him down Jefferson street.

The Marriott says the horse is worth at least $10,000.
