CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Two people are dead after a murder suicide near Campbellsville, Kentucky Tuesday morning according to Taylor County authorities.

The Taylor County Sheriff said the incident was triggered by a domestic dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend.

At some point this morning, the man, whose identity is not being released, used a crossbow to kill his girlfriend, and then turned a shot gun on himself.

The sole witness to the crime was the man's uncle who also lives at the home in the 4300 block of East Finley Ridge Road.

The man is longtime resident to Campbellsville while his girlfriend was from Virginia.

Sheriff Allen Newton says he knew the man and could not recall any major criminal history.

"Anytime you have a homicide, it's out of character for most people. Sometimes they just snap and do things they normally wouldn't do," Newton said.

Autopsies are scheduled to be performed in Louisville on Wednesday.

The names of the individuals have not yet been released.
