Police: 2 Ky. men arrested for stealing car, leading police on chase

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Two Frankfort, Ky. men have been arrested after police said they stole a car and fled at a high rate of speed while trying to evade police.

According to police, officers attempted to pull over a speeding car around 12:30 Wednesday morning on US 127.

When the officer tried to pull over the car, police said the driver accelerated and refused to pull over. The driver of the car, identified as Joshua Stigers, 18, then lost control of the car and crashed on Pine Oak Place.

Stigers and his passenger, Matthew Lewis, 18, got out of the car and ran on foot.

After a brief pursuit, both Lewis and Stigers were taken into custody.

Police said they had recently stolen the car they were driving from a nearby Walmart store.

Joshua Stigers is charged with speeding, reckless driving, fleeing & evading police, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.

Matthew Lewis was charged with receiving stolen property, fleeing & evading police and Criminal Mischief.

Both men are in the Franklin County Jail.
