LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)--A Jefferson County man was arrested on Thursday afternoon after a shoplifting call led officers on a chase through a Bashford Manor neighborhood.

According to a police report, at 3:00 p.m. Thursday officers responded to a call at the Bashford Manor Lane Wal-Mart where two subjects were reportedly observed leaving the scene.  An officer approached and began checking one subject for identification and weapons.  Upon the search, the subject, Devon Ballanger, 22, turned and attempted to strike the officer with his fist.  Ballanger then, according to the report, removed his shirt, pushed the officer away and began to flee on foot.

Ballanger ran into a neighborhood near Bashford Manor Lane and Mayo Dr.  The pursuing officer reported that Ballanger was jumping backyard fences and in the process caused alarm in several residents.

The subject was apprehended at the intersection of Peabody Lane and Goldsmith Lane.  Ballanger was charged with 2nd Degree Robbery, 3rd Degree Assault, Fleeing from Police and Disorderly Conduct.

He was lodged in the Jefferson County jail.
