LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – After the Louisville Cardinals victory Tuesday night, coach Rick Pitino pulled his family together on the court to honor the late Billy Minardi, his brother-in-law killed in one of the World Trade Towers during 9-11.

During a touching moment on the court last night, Pitino game his Hall of Fame jersey to his sister-in-law, Minardi’s widow, Stephanie.

“I wanted my sister-in-law to really feel something special because I was thinking about her all afternoon,” Pitino said. “The rough breaks she’s had in her life, and I said listen – this is the most special thing that’s happened to me and I want you to have it.”

Pitino has always said Billy Minardi was also his best friend. Minardi was with Pitino in 1996 in New Jersey when the coach led the Kentucky Wildcats to the national championship.
