MOUNT WASHINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Officials in Bullitt County have rejected a permit for an Islamic cemetery to be built in Mount Washington, Ky.
It comes after dozens of people in the community showed up on Thursday night demanding it stayed away from their nearby neighborhood.
The Louisville Islamic Center needed a conditional use permit to build a cemetery on Hubbards Lane.
Some Mount Washington residents were worried that an already congest traffic area would be compounded by the cemetery. A spokesperson for the Louisville Islamic Center said that should not be a concern; most Muslims are buried in their home country and the funerals at this cemetery would be small.
Other Mount Washington residents were worried about culture clashes.
All but one board member voted against the permit.
