JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ky. (WHAS11) – On Friday night people impacted by the October train derailment in southwest Jefferson County got a chance to learn how they could get a settlement from the railroad company.
Residents who had to evacuate their homes for several days, say they are not being fairly compensated for their expenses.
Their class action lawsuit was filed in a Hardin County court several weeks ago.
On Friday attorneys held a meeting for other residents to learn about the lawsuit and how to join it. The suit alleges negligence stating the defendants failed to operate rail cars safely and failed to repair railroad ties that were rotted and decayed.
P&L Railway is one of the defendants named.
