(WHAS11) - The owners of a pit bull that attacked a 6-year-old girl are now behind bars.

Ray Lane and Erica Maxwell-Cline are charged with harboring a vicious animal.

Authorities say that on Monday their dog attacked Elissa Fannin in the couple's apartment in Bowling Green.

Fannin underwent four hours of surgery at Kosair Children's Hospital on Monday and was released Wednesday night.

According to Metro Animal Services, pit bulls can be more dangerous than other breeds because of their strong jaws.

Really, the various state governments of this country should have pit bulls euthanized and put down instead of allowing them in this country. They are menace no matter what their owners may say. That would eliminate a lot of this nonsense. Not to mention these people need to be held accountable for their dogs. There are a lot of other dogs that are violent especially Rotwilers and Pit Bulls and other canines. I know, I've been around a few. They are just as dangerous a coy dog or some other half breed of an animal. They are wild animals and incapable of recognizing babies or children or even for that matter adults.
