(WHAS11) --There have been six homicides discovered in the Louisville Metro area in the past five days. The latest occurred Monday morning. Police were called out to the scene around 12:15 a.m. for shots fired on the 1800 block of Oak St.
When police arrived, they found a man shot in the street. That man was later identified as Christopher Colbert, 33.
WHAS11 talked to a friend of Colbert who says he heard the gunshots.
“When they [police] turned him over, I saw his [the victim’s] face and I said, ‘Aw man. That’s my homey,” the victim’s friend, who did not want to be identified, said.
Police say Colbert got off the TARC bus and was walking home from work.
Police say he was shot at least once. Colbert was taken to University of Louisville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim’s friend believes the victim was robbed. But, police say they do not know the motive for the homicide.
“He [the victim] worked every day at the same job for 15 years,” Metro homicide detective Lt. Todd Kessinger said. “[He] didn’t have a criminal record. He had the same routine.”
“I never thought it was going to be him because he doesn’t bother anybody,” the victim’s friend said. “He has a daughter; he goes to work, comes home and takes care of his daughter.”
Witnesses tell police they saw the shooter run from the scene on foot. But at this time police have made no arrests and have not identified the suspect.
