LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Residents who live on Blue Lick Road in Okolona are becoming more concerned with the traffic near their homes.
Nicole Alves has lived at the corner of Blue Lick and Foreman Lane for 10 years and ever since she has been worried about the cars that come around a nearby curve.
“It's scary to just go get the mail,” Alves said.
She estimates she’s gone through 20 mailboxes and said the latest accident she witnessed was last Wednesday when a Cadillac sandwiched her car, which was parked in her driveway, between her tree.
“The driver came barreling. He scraped the guardrail, kept going and barely missed that telephone pole and hit the car,” Alves said.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has plans to widen the road, adding left turn lanes and improving the turn radius to make the curve less sharp, but Alves argues that will put the road closer to her house and her trees will likely be removed.
“We feel like that’s the only thing keeping a barrier between the house sometimes,” Alves said.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said they have plans to move forward with construction to widen the road next year.
