LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- An ordinance is moving forward in Louisville that is meant to protect anyone who has something stolen from them that may end up at local pawnshops.

Well now an ordinance is in the works requiring all pawnshops to hold any goods they receive for a period of 10 calendar days.

It also states that if police have good reason to believe an item at a pawnshop has been stolen, they can notify the pawnshop, and that item cannot be sold or removed from the premises for 30 days.

Pawnbrokers will also be required to take pictures of any items received and those pictures have to be kept for a year.

There are other provisions allowing police to look at the books of pawn shops looking for stolen property and pawnshops keeping track of their customers.
