(WHAS11) One of Louisville’s best known local talk show hosts is returning to the airwaves full-time.
Joe Elliott is heading to 970AM; owned by Salem Communications, the station goes by the call letters of WGTK. Elliott was one of several people laid off by WHAS Radio and Clear Channel Communications in November, 2007; he stayed with WHAS-AM part-time to host its long-running “Sunday Morning Talk Show.”
Starting Monday, September 20, Elliott joins 970AM for his own local talk show from noon to 3 p.m. A tough time slot, Elliott will be on the air competing directly with Rush Limbaugh, but the general manager of WGTK, Tim Hartlage, said Elliott’s fairness as a broadcaster appealed to him along with his knowledge of local news and politics.
Salem Communications also hired Bobby Jack Murphy, a long time and popular personality from WAMZ. Murphy is heard on 94.7FM at 4 p.m. every afternoon.
At WHAS Radio, fill-in hosts will take over the “Sunday Morning Talk Show”, until a decision is made as to the permanent direction that time slot will take.
