LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Crews will be closing the intersection of Preston and Jefferson Streets along with the surrounding square block beginning Monday.
The roads will be closed until Friday so workers can set beams as part of the bridge project.
The only people who directly work and live within the zone are at the Wayside Christian Mission.
The large impact will fall on drivers.
The Kentucky Regional Planning and Development Agency claims in 2010 an average of almost 6,000 cars drove on this section of Jefferson Street a day.
"It's changed a lot. You see the traffic flow kind of backs up from time to time. It doesn't flow as easily as it used to be. Some of it's an eesore, but you know it's our tax dollars at work so, that's the most important thing,” resident Michael Stell said.
The lanes closed on Main and Market Streets are scheduled to re-open May 31.
