(WHAS11)—The polls are  up and running Tuesday morning in a handful of states, 12 big cities will elect or re-elect mayors and Democrats seem most vulnerable in two big gubernatorial races, including the New Jersey race that everyone seems to be watching.

If the incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine loses the governorship to Republican challenger Chris Christie, some say it might signal the start of political trouble for Democrats on a national level.

Plus a third candidate, Independent Christopher Daggett, could play a factor in the outcome.

There's also an important vote in Ohio that could impact more than one state.  Kentucky’s horse racing industry and Indiana’s casino boats if Ohio voters decide to allow gaming.

If the votes do come down for gaming, it would mean four new casinos that could generate hundreds of millions of dollars for the Ohio and another state supplementing horse racetrack purses with casino funds.
