LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Singers, dancers and actors looking for their big break in show business turned out for the “Newsies” auditions Sunday.

There was an open call for male dancers between the ages of 16 and 22 at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.

“Newsies” the musical is based on the 1992 film Newsies which was inspired by the 1899 newsboys strike in New York City.

The show opened on Broadway last year and won Tony awards for best choreography and original score.

“It makes me feel really great. This is actually my first national tour dance call,” actor Mark Anderson said. “I usually do contemporary plays [and] so to come in here and dance is really a lot of fun for me.”

Those who make the cut in the Louisville auditions will move on to New York for auditions in July.

There are several other stops on this nationwide audition tour including California, New Jersey, North Carolina, Georgia and Arizona.
