LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The new owner of one of Louisville's best known restaurant sites says get ready for the southern California surf scene on Bardstown Road. You’ll also see a return to music played the old fashioned way.
Avalon restaurant and the Luna boutique next door have been sold to Shawn Cantley and his business partner for $1.7 million. Cantley also owns the Silver Dollar on Frankfort Avenue. Avalon closed abruptly last summer.
Cantley lives nearby in the Highlands and calls Avalon the premiere restaurant location on Bardstown Road. It will be renamed “El Camino." Cantley told WHAS11 that he will attempt to recreate the feel of southern California beach towns. Drinks will be made tiki style, all homemade, with fresh squeezed juices and homemade syrups and bitters.
Cantley says the former Luna Boutique next door will be turned into a Mexican market and store.
Gant Hill of Gant Hill and Associates in Louisville brokered the deal. Construction on the new concept is expected to last six months before it is open sometime this summer.
