Louisville, Ky. (WHAS) – Right down the street from where gunfire echoed six months ago in the Parkland neighborhood, a new business is bringing a new vision to the area.

Jessie Lindsey opened the Picture Perfect Barbershop in the neighborhood he grew up in. “I've been cutting hair since I was 13, so I always had a vision of opening my own barbershop,” Lindsey said.

He says he opened his business on 32nd and Greenwood because he wanted to encourage positive development. Earlier this year three people were shot and killed on 32nd street.

Lindsey says that played a large role in the way he designed his barbershop, “trying to make it feel as homey as possibly so when somebody comes in here they won’t think that you know this is a violent neighborhood or anything. I just want everyone to feel safe around here.”

Councilwoman Attica Scott applauded Lindsey’s decision to open his business in the neighborhood that has been recently plagued with violence. “There's a lot of hope being infused. We have folks who are stepping up opening business, employing folks, talking care of neighbors, and that's what it's going to take to rebuild and revitalize the Parkland neighborhood.”

Picture Perfect Barbershop is open Monday-Saturday. Lindsey plans on offering discounts to community members. On Tuesdays, he will offer $6 haircuts for kids as a way to boost self-esteem.
