The University of Louisville Athletic Department kicked off a comprehensive social media strategy this week, including an assortment of new initiatives includes partnerships with local and national companies, community engagement, and online campaigns.

Among the new social initiatives is a strategic partnership with the newly launched collaborative video app, Ptch.  Incubated by DreamWorks Animation, the iPhone app allows users to quickly and easily create multimedia mash-ups, or “Ptches”, up to 60 seconds in length using the photos and videos from their iPhones and social feeds. Ptch users can then stylize this content with filters, themes and music to share and collaborate with friends and family online.

As the founding collegiate member of the Ptch Partnership Program, UofL will work directly with Ptch developers to provide special University of Louisville-focused content, giving fans a new and better way to interact at games. Ptch will also join as a founding member of the University of Louisville Athletics Social Media Advisory Board along with local companies, Power Creative and LeapFrog Interactive.

“The University of Louisville is one of the nation’s premier athletic programs and we are excited to partner with them to bring students and fans a whole new level of self-expression with Ptch. said Ed Leonard, CEO of Ptch. “We built Ptch to empower mobile users to create and share visual media in a fun, fast and easy way.  We can’t wait to see what Cardinal fans do with Ptch this season.”

“Our goal is to create an innovative online environment with a presence across multiple social media platforms,” said Nick Stover, who became Director of Social Media and Engagement for UofL Athletics in July. “These new initiatives will set a professional foundation for future development of the next phase in social media.”

Fans are encouraged to send photos, videos, and comments in support of the UofL fall sports teams during a digital Pep Rally on Aug. 30-31, from 3:30-4:30pm. These should be sent on Twitter to @ULFlyingCard and ptch with hash tag #ULFlyingCard. Stover will repost top comments and updates to the Louisville Cardinals Facebook page at www.facebook.com/UofLSports.
