LOUISVILLE, Ky.  (WHAS11) – A man injured in a house fire earlier this week received a helping hand from friends and neighbors Saturday.

The group of individuals was at the home located in the 1000 block of Sylvia Street to clean up damage left behind from Monday night’s fire.

The unidentified gentleman was the only person inside the house at the time.

His foot was severely burned but he is expected to survive.

Posting were made on the Germantown-Schnitzelburg Facebook page to rally volunteers to help out their neighbor.

“You know it’s great. They put out a message on Facebook and I wasn’t sure how many people would actually show up to help out but we’ve got a good crowd out here and I think that really says a lot about the people around here,” neighbor Evan Cox said.

Neighbors say in addition to clearing the damage, they’re also planning to collect money for the victim.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
