LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) - - Diane Nally spotted a troubling scene on Gabriel Drive Saturday afternoon as police pulled over a car with two adult women and a toddler.
“They had several cop cars out there and pulling everything out of the trunk. It was a lengthy traffic stop and they were pulling items from the trunk and out of the vehicle and the child looked very scared.” Diane Nally said.
The woman is Julie Barnett also known as Julie Thompson.
Police say she had methadone pills that weren't prescribed to her and drug paraphernalia in her car at the time of the stop.
The other occupants Julie's 18-year-old daughter Kelsy Barnett along with her other two year old daughter.
“She was clinging to her mom's neck and was very unsure of what was going on. It's just very sad to see a child that young exposed and brought up in that situation.” Nally said.
Barnett was hauled off to jail, but despite a long prior criminal history, she didn't stay there long.
Only a matter of hours after she was released from Metro Corrections on her own recognizance, Julie Barnett was pulled over and arrested here on fox horn court, about two and a half blocks from the site of her first arrest. Again, she had both daughters with her.
Julie and her daughter Kelsy were both charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
Julie's 2-year-old daughter was placed in the care of a family member.
Her oldest daughter, 21-year-old Kayla Barnett, has also been repeatedly arrested on drug charges and is currently awaiting trial.
Adam: Julie, you want to talk about what happened over the weekend?
Lawyer: We don't have a comment.
Adam: You don't want to say anything about it? People are pretty concerned about the situation.
