LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)- Every day is a reminder for Vickie Talbert of the son she lost.
"I wake up, and I talk to him," said Talbert. "I have his pictures around the house."
Lashawn Talbert, also known as Sugar Shizz, was shot in the head last August after a drug deal that turned violent. Both David Curd and Kenneth Brown were arrested and charged with murder, but a jury acquitted Curd. Instead he was convicted of second degree manslaughter. He could now spend up to five years in prison.
"I think that he should have got at least 15," said Talbert. "Five years ain't nothing."
In court Friday, Curd's attorney said Curd was driving Lashawn to meet Brown to buy marijuana when Lashawn robbed Brown. The attorney said that's when Brown shot at Lashawn's vehicle. Talbert said it doesn't matter who pulled the trigger, and that both men were equally responsible for her son's death.
"No matter what, don't nobody deserve to die the way my son did," she said.
The jury also convicted Curd of facilitation to traffic marijuana, and tampering with physical evidence.
Brown's trial is expected to start in January.
