LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – As police continue to search for 30 year-old Dominique Carter-Bryant’s killer her mother, Belinda Carter, is trying to come to terms with her daughter’s murder.
“It’s not a dream. It’s a nightmare. I can’t wake up from. I want to wake up,” Carter said.
Carter-Bryant was gunned down as she tried to get into the locked apartment entrance at the Salisbury Apartment complex where she lived early Saturday morning. According to Carter, her daughter lived in the complex with her 11 year-old daughter and her husband of 10 years.
“She has a daughter, an 11-year-old daughter, [who] looks just like her that I have to look at every day and remind me of my daughter that somebody viciously took,” Carter said.
Carter says Dominique had been returning home from being out with friends when she was shot multiple times and left dead in the parking lot around 6:15am Saturday morning. Tonight, she is pleading for the public’s help. She believes this was not a random act of violence because her daughter still had her purse and belongings on her when police discovered her body. “Somebody’s got to know. They killed my daughter out right. They killed her, this wasn’t a robbery. They killed my baby,” Carter said.
According to Carter, her daughter was looking to move out of the Salisbury apartment where she lived because of the recent surge in violence and had plans yesterday to look at houses with her husband. One day after Dominique was shot and killed her mother is wants do know why her daughter was targeted.
“She was a good person, a loving person, a good mother…why would somebody take my child like this and just shoot her how many times?” Carter said.
Funeral arrangements for Dominique are still pending. Her mother tells WHAS11 her daughter would have celebrated her 31st birthday on March 7th, and her family plans on celebrating her birthday as away to honor her life.
