Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Construction began Wednesday on a new park that will eventually become part of the Louisville Loop.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday in Beckley Creek Park and Pope Lick Park.
The highlight of the project will be a tree-lined walk that will stretch nearly half a mile.
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear attended the groundbreaking.
Developers say the addition of this green space will add another four to five miles on the Louisville Loop, a planned bike path around the city.
