HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A western Kentucky mother accused of locking her two children in a filthy room and monitoring them by video has pleaded guilty to abuse charges.
The Kentucky New Era reports 24-year-old Megan McQuiston of Hopkinsville accepted the deal Wednesday. Under its terms, charges of unlawful imprisonment were dropped.
Her sentencing was set for Sept. 15. Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Kathi Adams is recommending five years in prison.
The children's father, Andrew McQuiston, has maintained his innocence. His trial is scheduled on Nov. 22.
Police arrested the couple in April after officers discovered their 2- and 3-year-old children locked in a bedroom covered with feces. A police report said the children were sleeping on the floor atop urine-soaked blankets.
