(WHAS 11)-- A liberal political action committee is stepping up its criticism of U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) with a protest of McConnell's speech Friday before the Commerce Lexington Public Policy luncheon at the Hyatt Regency.

Progress Kentucky says its top mission is to elect a new U.S. senator to represent Kentucky.  The group claims McConnell, the Republican Leader of the U.S. Senate, portrays himself as a "fiscal cliff hero.  Yet, they contend McConnell merely fixed a problem of his own creation.

WHAS11 Political Editor Joe Arnold is covering McConnell's appearance in Lexington.  Watch for reports at 5pm and 6pm on WHAS11 News and on WHAS11.com.
