LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A female Louisville Metro Police officer and a civilian are recovering after an injury accident caused a shutdown on I-64.

The accident happened just after 10 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-64 at the 9th Street and  22nd Street exit.

According to police, the officer was on traffic control working in a work zone. Investigators say the SUV misjudged the roadway clearance and did not merge over in time rear ending the officer.

The officer was brought to University Hospital with a head injury but was conscious and alert.

The driver of the SUV was brought to the hospital with neck, back, and leg pain.

I-64 was shut down about 45 minutes after the crash but is open.

Officials say there will be no charges expected to be issued against the driver of the SUV.
